If you can catch her eye and make eye contact from some distance away, you can give her a smile and see how she reacts. If she doesn't recoil in horror, that's the perfect time to approach her. It takes some guts, but put on your big boy pants and walk up to her. "Hi" is not a bad thing to lead with. If you don't know her, "what's your name?" is a decent follow up to hi and then a good opportunity to introduce yourself. Once you've introduced yourself, you can start asking her situationally appropriate questions about herself (don't get creepy personal or anything) and gauge her reactions. If you know her already, pick something about her appearance for the day to compliment her on. "I like your style today" or "your hair looks great, did you do something different?" At the end of the day, it's not so important what you say as that you get a conversation going and let it evolve from there. I've said this in other threads, but ask her questions and get her talking about herself and the things she likes. Let her do most of the talking, be a good listener, and ask good follow up questions. If she asks you questions about yourself, that's a good sign she's interested.
